MARY & TOM

The story behind this session is quite comical actually. While in Rhode Island for Christian’s performances, we were exploring with some of our friends. As we were walking on these rocks, I saw this couple and thought how cool would it be to photograph strangers. Christian encouraged me to ask and just go out onto a limb.

As we walked closer, I said, “Hi, my name is Amiee and I’m a photographer from Pennsylvania. I’ve never done this before, but I think you guys would be great to photograph for about 5-10 minutes if you’re up for it!”

Tom & Mary volunteered to be my muses for a few minutes, and not long after agreeing, Mary looked at Tom asking if he set this up and if he was proposing to her. Looking at her like she was speaking a different language he said, “Mary, no I just met this lady right here and now just like you are!”

We proceed to take some photos, and I have to say it was freaking freezing so I didn’t want to keep them for too long. After our 5 minutes, we exchanged information and went our separate ways.

That night while Christian is performing in Newport, I receive a message from Tom saying that moments later in another spot he DID PROPOSE! While we were walking up, he was about to do it and saw people coming so he stopped. I invited them out to celebrate and they came to Christian’s performance to grab a drink and talk a bit more. We had the best time talking about the whole situation and about how absolutely wild it was. What are the odds, right? Looking back at these images, I am thankful that I decided to swallow my pride, drum up some courage, and talk to a stranger.
